Very content to be the budget "Laputa" that it is, it doesn't really coalesce into a movie at any point. It spends the first half on Sinbad leaving his birthplace, and the only part of that that feels filmic is his mother's reaction. After that point, it picks up a bit because it has to get through the magic island portion with the rest of its time. Or, rather, it needs to get them there and have the princess emote.
Even so, it's not bad by any means. Being budget Laputa means it still has a few interesting visuals, nice character designs, and an easygoing attitude. I found it pleasant more than anything else.

I have no idea what really drove me to watch this other then I was tired and the length seemed doable. This anime take on Sinbad wasn’t terrible, but it was almost like a cliche take on every character and Sinbad himself is basically Luffy from One Piece. This was part one out of a three part trilogy that I will most likely still finish since now I’m curious of what he’ll do on the ship.

This was a fun time! I honesty adore the simple themes and classic character types in here. The determined protagonist with an eye for adventure, a mysterious princess with magical ability who’s heart is in the right place and secretly aches for adventure as well, the loud-mouthed comic relief who can be a little bit of a stinker but you love him anyway.
I was also surprised at some amazingaction shots throughout this! You already know I love a good chase scene, and the one here between the Princess and her flying horse running away from the evil bandits on flying carpets is so good! So many unique perspectives and fast paced sequences that made me rewind to make sure I didn’t make up a badass shot animated in a movie that seems to be marketed for children.
Overall this is a delightful palette cleanser and I can’t wait to see the next two in the trilogy!

A successful exercise in nostalgia anime that sets up a cast of likable characters and an interesting world (already liking classics like The 7th Voyage of Sinbad this seems to go for a similar approach, but is more science than fantasy driven), but is in the end nothing more than just a setup.

Not bad, exactly, but literally the simplest and most obvious execution of every idea it has. Plays like a pilot for a tv show I would not watch the rest of.

nostalgic character design, but way too short, the film ends when the action is at its peak. Feels more like a pilot for a TV series, is this the case?

Well, I was right about 'Moving Island' not being a complete movie. Apparently, it was part two of a short trilogy. So, how does part one fare? Mostly better.
The animation is still good, the magic is a little more reserved than in part two, and the characters continue to be fun, arguably moreso now that I better understand their motivations. Still nothing super amazing but it makes a better first act than 'Moving Island' made a second.

Characters (3/10):
They are pretty shallow and have personalities by the book. I didn't care about any of them or found them interesting.
Story (4/10):
The plot is pretty standard but anticlimatic for the setup "movie". And I really hate the trend of some movies only being 1 hour long. It always seems like a cash grab to me. Just make a 2 hour movie with the whole story.
Music (5/10):
It does the job.
Visuals (4/10):
It has only the quality of an okay TV series.Enjoyment: 3/10
Overall: 3.8/10 -

It’s cheap and cheerful fun. Sure, the animation isn’t exactly beautiful nor detailed, but it doesn’t need to be! This is a light hearted (although there’s certainly some heart) and fun adventure that utilises a commonly used premise in a forgettable albeit harmless way.
